Victory Day celebration as a ritual of integration of the Russian society

Abstract. The article attempts to explain the phenomenon of increasing relevance of the Victory Day celebration in modern Russian society. Understanding the meaning of the heroics of this date and an emotional attitude to it explains the fact that more than half of the respondents believe that this holiday should be celebrated especially solemnly, which is embodied in personal participation in such an event as the «Immortal Regiment», in family feasts with memories of relatives, military songs, etc. City festivals also remain popular. Only about 16 % of respondents are not included in the festive events. Clarification of the elements of the Victory Day holiday that are necessary in the opinion of respondents shows that it is perceived primarily not as a private holiday, but as a national and state one. Of all the selected ritual elements of the holiday, the most popular are those that are organized by the state: holding and broadcasting a military parade, congratulating veterans, graying memorial sites, etc. It is they who give this holiday a special solemnity, scale, ensure the involvement of the whole people and all generations in it, give it an epic scale and form the personal involvement of a modern person in the history of his Homeland.
