Abstract. The article presents a linguistic and cultural analysis of the concept of WEDDING on the material of Chuvash folklore. The purpose of the study is to describe the conceptual, value, and figurative components of the WEDDING concept. The research source was folklore materials (Chuvash wedding songs, ditties, proverbs) collected during ethnographic expeditions in the Aurgazinsky district of the Republic of Bashkortostan. The result of the study is the following conclusions: the conceptual component of the WEDDING concept allows us to talk about the intersection of the meanings of the word «wedding» in Russian and the word «thuja» in the Chuvash language, since they have both matching and diverging meanings. These tokens coincide in the meaning of «marriage ceremony», but differ in other meanings: the Chuvash word «thuja» also has the meaning of «wedding train», which is absent in the Russian word «wedding». In the Chuvash language, the word wedding – tui converts from the category of nouns to the category of adjectives in the way of conversion: yltаn tuy – golden wedding; tuy yаli-yеrki – a wedding ceremony. The supermoral values of the WEDDING concept characterize the religious attitudes of the Chuvash people. The moral components of the WEDDING concept characterize such human qualities as the ability to behave modestly and decently at a wedding, the person’s ability to have fun, sing and dance, and be hospitable. Utility values as part of the WEDDING concept include the blessing of parents and well-wishes of relatives, a happy family life and the ability to do everything on time. The main components of the figurative characteristic of the WEDDING concept in the Chuvash language are holiday, fun, love, bride, hushpu, horse, well-wishes, congratulations, white and yellow colors.
