Abstract. In the modern world, there is an ambiguous attitude to old age. On the one hand, an elderly person is considered to be senile, infirm, and an object of state institutions and public organizations to provide social assistance and support. On the other hand, as a member of society actively participating in social, economic, cultural, and political life. There is a need to understand what mechanisms are involved in the social integration of older people, which makes them active, cheerful and ready to give their knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as to receive new information. The article presents the results of an empirical study conducted in the Jewish Autonomous region. The purpose of the study is to identify the main mechanisms of social integration of older people. Object of research: social integration of older people. Subject of research: mechanisms of social integration of elderly people in the Jewish Autonomous region. Research methods: the sociological survey was conducted in the form of questionnaires and expert interviews. The questionnaire survey revealed the following main mechanisms: socio-related, socio-economic, socio-cultural, educational and social. It is determined that the key element of the social mechanism is the interaction of older people and actors representing various social institutions: relatives, employers, colleagues, public services and organizations, public organizations. Only in this case will social integration be successful. The analysis of expert assessments of employers revealed their attitude to older people as potential employees; the necessary conditions and measures to ensure the effective integration of older people into the socio-economic space of the region are outlined. The article is aimed at a wide range of readers and can be useful for students, sociologists, civil servants, state and public organizations.
