Abstract. The article analyzes the situation on the labor market of the Republic of Mordovia over the past ten years on the basis of statistical and sociological data. The structure of labor supply and demand and the dynamics of changes in employment are studied. The purpose of the study: to study the causes of problems with job search and employment in conditions of increased demand for labor resources.

Through a sociological survey, the problems faced by residents of the republic in finding employment were identified. The following trend is observed: on the one hand, in recent years there has been an increase in open vacancies and a decrease in the number of unemployed, on the other hand, the main problem for many years has been the lack of work. Over the past year, the situation with the discrepancy between the supply and demand of labor has worsened even more, the number of jobs offered has more than tripled the number of applicants, and an analysis of the professional qualification structure of open vacancies and applicants has revealed a discrepancy between the proposed jobs and the demands of the population. Vacancies in working professions occupy a significant share in the structure of labor demand, while supply exceeds demand mainly in the areas of intangible production. In addition, for many years the republic has been among the regions with the lowest wage levels, which contributes to the active labor migration of qualified workers, who choose, among other things, a shift method of work. The decrease in the supply of labor is negatively influenced by unfavorable demographic trends characterized by natural population decline and migration outflow of able-bodied citizens of working age.
