Abstract. In the article, based on the analysis of data from a series of in-depth interviews of people with disabilities living in the city of Saransk and having mobility impairments of various types (musculoskeletal disorders, sensory impairments), an attempt is made to study how the existing level of accessibility of the living environment in the city affects everyday life informants, how it has changed over the past 10 years and whether it leads to greater inclusion of people with reduced mobility in the life of society. Additionally, a sociological study was conducted — a questionnaire survey within the framework of the «Fishing Without Borders» project, which allows us to assess the accessibility of sports infrastructure for disabled people, located partly in urban and partly in rural areas. The purpose of the survey was to study the opinions of people with disabilities about the accessibility of water bodies for people with mobility limitations for sport fishing, as well as whether the project could influence the improvement of the accessibility of the environment for people with disabilities in general on the territory of the Republic of Mordovia. The Fishing Without Borders project aimed to improve the accessibility of sport fishing for disabled people in several ways. Firstly, increasing the physical accessibility of platforms for people with disabilities who have difficulty moving, as well as infrastructural accessibility for those who cannot get to the pond, where everything is equipped for accessible fishing. Secondly, increasing the economic accessibility of equipment for those who cannot purchase it due to low incomes and lack of necessary knowledge on the use of equipment. The third factor in increasing accessibility, which is realized in the educational role of the project, is connected with this: instilling the necessary knowledge and skills for sport fishing.
