Abstract. The article considers the problem of social adaptation of rural youth to the conditions of the urban environment and the learning process at the university. The author analyzes the causes of the migratory outflow of youth from village to city, among which are called the uneven distribution of goods, underdeveloped infrastructure in rural areas, lack of prospects for employment, attractiveness of urban life for youth. In addition to the economic criterion of migration, the educational factor is considered. Leaving the village, young people must transform their life and professional experience, adapt it to the conditions of the urban environment. The ability to adapt, overcome difficulties and make the right correct and effective decisions, realize oneself in urban space is the most important success factor for a young man from the countryside. However, this spectrum of problems is most acute for students from rural areas who are undergoing an adaptation period to the new urban conditions and to the conditions of study at the university. The article presents the results of a sociological study of the process of social adaptation of student youth from rural areas to the urban environment (for example, students of Orenburg State University). It analyzes such aspects of student adaptation as socio-economic, communicative, institutional, social and everyday. These aspects are related to both external and internal factors of social adaptation of rural youth. The author examined various strategies for adapting students depending on the course of study. It is concluded that for students from rural areas the process of adaptation to the educational process at the university is complicated by the need to adapt to new conditions of the urban environment. However, most students are already effectively adapting to graduation courses, developing individual behavioral strategies.
