Abstract. The article is devoted to the analysis of German and American political leaders’ caricatures (the German Chancellor Otto von Bismarck and the American President Abraham Lincoln) during the uniting processes in the second half of the XIXth century. It allows us to look at the current issues of world politics through the prism of graphic illustration. The visualization of the political figures’ image was a traditional technique used by the XIXth century periodicals. The main features of political caricature are appraisal and aggressiveness, efficiency, purposeful upholding of the point of view in the political space. Due to its significant impact potential, accessibility for understanding and maximum expressiveness, caricature gained particular popularity in the XIXth century. The caricatures analysis allows determining the attitude of contemporaries to the personality and activities of prominent politicians. The authors study the most famous political caricatures of the uniting processes leaders in Germany and the USA — Otto von Bismarck and Abraham Lincoln. These cartoons present readers in a comic way with the main characteristics of their personalities and their role in the international arena. The authors believe that the results of the study can be used for biographical research, for compiling a comparative description of political figures, as well as in the educational process during the acquaintance with historical figures when teaching a course on modern history. In addition, the materials of the article can be used in source studies disciplines in studying political cartoons.
