Abstract. The article is devoted to the study of the phenomenon of terminological synonymy on the material of Spanish stock exchange terminology. A frame analysis of the concept of “Stock exchange activity” was carried out to determine its internal structure. As a result of the analysis, it was revealed that the key procedural slot “Intermediaries”, representing one of the main participants in stock market trading, was verbalized by two pairs of terminological doublets, consisting of original and borrowed terms. The doublet nature of the borrowed terms was confirmed by the results of the definitional analysis of the definitions given in the main source of Spanish stock exchange terminology, the Madrid Stock Exchange glossary. Given that borrowed terms do not close the terminological gaps in the Spanish stock exchange terminology, therefore, their preference is due to other pragmatic purposes. The choice of a dominant term in a pair of synonyms is due to its inculcation in the field of use, the brevity of the term and, in the case of polysemantic terms, the frequency of use of this term in its stock exchange meaning. To solve the question of the preference of one of the two doublet terms, the article analyzes the functioning of the studied doublets in the field of use. The authors analyzed the quantitative and qualitative use of the original and borrowed terms in the texts of the mass media genre, designed for a wide range of readers and not specialized economic publications, as well as specialized forums and blogs dedicated to the review and analysis of the current state of the financial market of Spain and world markets. A comparative analysis showed that in the sphere of use in one of the doublet pairs, the original term was more widespread, and in the second doublet pair, the borrowed term. The authors concluded that intra-system synonymy is a characteristic feature of Spanish stock exchange terminology that does not affect its integrity.
