Abstract. In the article, the author gives the conceptual meaning of basic values in the Russian Federation. Defines their significance as an element of the cultural identity and identity of the country. The main problem of the study is to consider the issues of perception of traditional values by the population of Russia. The author pays special attention to the aspect of the importance and relevance of strengthening basic values among all categories of citizens. The analysis of the literature data suggests that in recent years the importance of traditional values has lost its force for Russians and given the difficult political and economic situation in the modern world, this issue requires careful study and solutions for the revival and promotion of basic cultural values among the population of Russia. The author shows the relevance of educating the perception of morality by the younger generation, instilling basic values as early as possible, raises the question of the need to revive the cult of the family in Russia, since it has always been an integral part of our identity and identity.

During the research, the author makes a number of important conclusions, one of which is that the cultural identity of Russia is closely linked and directly depends on the awareness of the population of its traditional values and the key to the successful existence of Russia lies in the preservation of its culture, philosophy, religion and other aspects of identity. Russia is unique in terms of all the components of identity, and one of the important tasks of modern society is to preserve, strengthen and promote the traditional values of the state.
