Modern fair in the system of urban festive culture (on the example of the “White” fair in Krasnoyarsk)

Abstract. This article is devoted to determining the features of the functioning of the modern fair in urban festive culture. On the example of the New Year’s “White” fair, held annually in Krasnoyarsk, the characteristic of the main components of this festive event is described. The “White” fair has been held for more than four years and is the winter analogue of the “Green” festival, which takes place annually in the summer in the city and is a kind of cultural event in the format of the fair. The organizers of the “White” fair during its period daily organize various concerts and competitions among guests. In this work, the fair is considered not only as a trading platform, market or bazaar, but more as a city festival. The material presented in the article also contains historical information about how fairs were born and developed in Russia. The collected information allowed the author to identify some features of the traditional and modern fairs and to study the issue of its impact on the public life of people in the urban environment. Thanks to the empirical research methods used in the work (the included (built-in) observation method, the visual observation method, the comparative historical method), it was possible to analyze the behavior of the participants of the “White” fair, compare the forms of communication in the cultural and historical context and outline the role of the fair as a multifunctional cultural phenomenon. The author of the article identifies the functions that the fair performs in a modern urban environment: trade-exchange, communicative, recreational (entertaining). A brief analysis of each of these functions has been performed. In the final part of the scientific article, the author draws conclusions on the topic.
