Abstract. The article builds the competency model of the handicraftsmen-businessmen, in the structure of which social competencies occupy an important place. The relevance of this model is due to the fact that graduates of small educational organizations with a craft orientation do not get a chance for social success. Entering the labor market, graduates are faced with the problem of social and professional adaptation, because the activity of the handicraftsmen-businessmen is socially determined and, according to the theory of sociogenesis, takes its roots in the historical and sociocultural lines of development of craft activity. A comparative analysis of the concepts of “social competence” and “social intelligence” showed that both concepts contain similar components: cognitive – mental, affective – emotional and conative – volitional. Therefore, in the learning process, social intelligence can be developed into social competence, for this it is enough to introduce measures to teach social skills in the curriculum. The article provides an overview of various definitions of social competence and its component composition. The basic approaches to the development of social competencies in the process of training the craft profession are considered. It is determined that the direct training of artisan students in social skills will ensure their professional socialization. The most important characteristics of the social role and socio-role behavior of the handicraftsmen-businessmen are given. The relationship between social competence and the role-playing behavior of the handicraftsmen-businessmen was revealed and analyzed. As a result, it was concluded that each of the components of social competence affects the formation of social behavior that meets the requirements of the craft profession. The professional competencies of the handicraftsmen-businessmen are determined. As a result, the competency-based model of a handicraftsmen-businessmen is synthesized.
