Abstract. Sociological analysis of various parenting models is becoming a key tool for understanding the dynamics of family relationships and their transformation in the modern world. Social norms and values have a significant impact on the manifestation of parental behavior. Therefore, the article is devoted to the study of social ideas of Russians about the models of implementation of parental responsibilities. Parenting is understood as a set of status and role complexes that form the social boundaries of desirable forms and practices of relationships between mothers and fathers with children. In modern Russian society, there are constant changes in the socio-economic and socio-cultural environment, which affects the transformation of parent-child relationships and the distribution of family responsibilities. The scientific literature records a general trend — the expansion of the range of maternal and paternal roles and social assessments regarding parenting practices. Based on the empirical results of sociological research by VTsIOM (conducted in 2019 and 2020), the authors of the article consider the social ideas of Russians about responsible parenting, paternal responsibilities in a modern family, the nature of relationships with children in a complete family and in the event of divorce. It is shown that the traditional father model (breadwinner, bearer of power in the family, distant from domestic life, strict) is being replaced by the involved parent model (empathic, egalitarian, actively involved in the daily life of the family and children). Younger Russians are more often oriented towards the involved parenting model than the older generation.
