Abstract. The article deals with “the dictionary of linguistic terms of the Yakut language”, compiled by Candidate in Philology, Associate Professor M.A. Cherosov published in 1977. The dictionary reflected the terms on phonetics, morphology, syntax and vocabulary with interpretation. The dictionary aims to systematize and unify all known linguistic terms used in the scientific and educational literature on the Yakut language. This dictionary can be attributed to a type of narrow industry single-language terminological dictionaries. Unlike other single industry dictionaries, it is monolingual – Yakut speaking. The heading unit of the dictionary, its definition and other additional explanations are given in the Yakut language. As the practice of compiling terminological dictionaries in the 60–70s shows in the Yakut language the genre of national Russian translation dictionaries finally took shape. The researchers consider the dictionary of linguistic terms of the Yakut language, the researchers attribute to the interpretative type of dictionaries, where vocables are provided with definitions, i.e. brief interpretations. But it should be noted that the Yakut interpretation dictionaries of the early stage of work on streamlining the terms have one common serious drawback: instead of short definitions, they provide long encyclopedic explanations. Therefore, they are difficult to use in practice because of their bulkiness. Based on the vocabulary material, three varieties of the Yakut terminological syntagmatics can be distinguished: (1) complex terms; (2) compound terms; (3) collocation terms, consisting of three or more components. Multicomponent terminological phrases in most cases represent translation-tracing paper from the Russian language. They are formed on the basis of complex terms, compound terms, and mainly on the basis of a dominant word.
