Abstract. The article is devoted to a theoretical review of literature on the theme of song discourse and the identification of prospects for further research on this concept. The relevance of the article is determined, firstly, by the lack of significant experience in analyzing song discourse, and therefore, the need to form a terminological apparatus within the framework of song discourse. Secondly, the study of song discourse involves an interdisciplinary linguistic approach, as the studied concept affects not only the direction of linguistics itself, but also such related areas as psycholinguistics, linguoculturology, sociolinguistics, cognitive linguistics, etc. Thirdly, the song as a form of art throughout the existence of a cultural society remains significant, popular and most attractive not only for its audience but also for scholars as a branch of art.

The aim of the article is a theoretical review of works on the theme of song discourse and the identification of the most significant characteristics of the term being studied, which determine the future prospects of work in this area in the form of a PhD thesis.

The article analyzes the relationship between the terms “song discourse” and “music discourse”. The main functions of the song discourse (emotive, communicative, pragmatic, phatic and poetic) are determined and their characteristics are given. The dual character of the song text is explained and its understanding as a type of creolized text is updated, relation between its components (verbal, melodic and visual) is analyzed.

In addition, the article proves the need for interdisciplinary approaches in connection with the complexity and multidimensionality of the studied phenomenon. Song discourse is characterized by a connection with culture, the social differentiation of language and the conceptosphere of a particular community. The article claims the importance of linguocultural, sociolinguistic and conceptual aspects of the study in the context of the analysis of song discourse.
