Uralmash on the silver screen: streets, people, heroes
Abstract. Introduction. The authors of the article consider topical issues related to the understanding of the essence of local patriotism and local identity on the example of feature films about Uralmash, as the quintessence of the socialist world order.
Methods: the article deals with films of the Soviet period, directly or indirectly related to Uralmash as a territorial location and/or place of life and work of the main characters of the films. Results: The authors of the article argue that Soviet cinematography for a long period formed not only the image of the Soviet man, but also certain vital and cultural values. The main ideological postulates of the Soviet era — «a real person», «working class», «feat», «patriotism», «collective» — were integral semantic components of the films of the Soviet era and formed the local identity of the inhabitants of Uralmash.
Discussion. Through the study of the fates, deeds, characters, aspirations of the heroes of films, it is possible to trace gradual changes in the transmitted life values of Soviet society. In the Soviet paradigm, social values always prevail over individual ones: from the complete subordination of the life of working people to production, detachment from personal life, to the understanding that only a happy person living a personal life can perform labor feats.
Final report. With the changes that took place in the 1990s, with the collapse of the Soviet state, with a cardinal turn in ideology, the understanding of the identity of the Uralmashevites is lost, washed away with the departure of a generation of Soviet people, the pride of residents in their area disappears. Local patriotism of residents of industrial areas and cities is weakening. Local patriotism as a source and basis for the formation of love for the Motherland is losing its significance. However, without the preservation of the territorial identity of the industrial area, the main blows may be lost.
Keywords: Uralmash; Soviet cinema; a real person; local identity; local patriotism
