Abstract. The article presents the analysis of actualization of the conceptual sphere SAFETY in the primary British political discourse through the content of its constituent concepts. The study was made on the material of speeches of British contemporary political figures Theresa May and Boris Johnson, presented on the official website of the British government. The texts express the ideas of safety of senior officials: transferring and accepting British political power.

The analysis showed that the core of the conceptual sphere SAFETY consists of three concepts: SAFETY (verbalized by lexemes safety and security) and PROTECTION (verbalized by lexemes protection and defence), supplemented by the oppositional concept DANGER (verbalized by lexemes danger and threat).

In the understanding of safety presented in these texts we can distinguish three groups of meanings: (a) global safety, verbalized by such expressions as global challenges, serious threats to global stability, depth of the security and defense partnership, etc.; (b) safety of the state and citizens, verbalized by such expressions as safety and security, sleep safely, security of a safe home, protect you from the fear, etc.; (c) safety of British values, verbalized by such expressions as secure our freedom, live peacefully, our values are under threat, etc.

As a result of the analysis of the texts revealing these meanings, lexical units and expressions verbalizing the conceptual sphere SAFETY in the British political discourse are revealed. This allows understanding the inherent meanings adequately.

Keywords: concept; conceptual sphere; conceptual sphere SAFETY; lexical units; verbalization of the concept; content of the concept; political discourse; political text
