Abstract. The article substantiates the relevance and significance of the adaptation of foreign students at the university, reveals the essence and content of the basic concepts: adaptation, social adaptation, social adaptation of foreign students. The difficulties of adaptation of foreign students in Russian universities (psychophysiological, educational, cognitive, socio-cultural) are determined. The possibilities of joint activities of higher educational institutions with non-profit organizations on the issue of improving the adaptation processes of foreign students are considered. The author’s definition of the phenomenon «social adaptation of foreign students in the environment of a non-profit organization» is formulated. The factors of optimization of ways of social adaptation of foreign students by the capabilities of the «third sector» are indicated. The results of an experimental study of foreign students on the basis of the non-profit organization «Foundation for Humanitarian Economic Cooperation. To determine the level of social adaptation of foreign students, indicative indicators and corresponding diagnostic methods were selected: the level of social well-being, the level of social distance and cultural shock; the level of anxiety and maladaptation processes. The article presents the content of the multi-vector blocks of the program of social adaptation of foreign students, which consists in accompanying foreign students in their migration, legal, household, educational issues, contributing to the optimization of their social adaptation and improving their social well-being on the basis of a non-profit organization. The key directions of the educational block of the program «Personal effectiveness management and methods of effective adaptation» are considered. The results of repeated diagnostics of indicators of social adaptation of foreign students showed positive changes in the experimental group, which is proof of the effectiveness of the implemented program, which includes consulting, methodological, legal and educational support for foreign students in a non-profit organization.
