Abstract. This article provides a comprehensive analysis of the phenomenon of collective heroism, which is considered a fundamental and key element of the sociocultural code of the Russian nation. The article uses domestic concepts of the sociocultural and cultural-civilizational code as the initial theoretical and methodological framework for the study, which allows for an understanding of the underlying mechanisms of the formation of national identity. Additionally, the article draws on contemporary research on collective memory and commemoration, providing a multidimensional approach to the study of historical experiences.
The author convincingly demonstrates that the experience of numerous armed conflicts and wars is not only recorded in the historical consciousness, but also cemented in it as a profound spiritual phenomenon. This phenomenon condenses and transmits basic values for the common good, as well as forms a stable perception of the «victorious people». The paper analyzes the processes of forming the Soviet and post-Soviet canon of war memory, identifying the key mechanisms of its transmission and indoctrination through the educational system, mass media, and various ritual practices.
Special attention is paid to cultural interpretations of heroism, which are reflected in classical and modern literature, in the memorial spaces of cities and settlements, and in current media representations. The paper argues that collective heroism forms a normative model of behavior that defines the boundaries of what is morally acceptable and desirable in situations of national crisis and existential challenges.
In conclusion, the article concludes that it is crucial to preserve the heroic motive in the structure of Russian identity. It also emphasizes the importance of reinterpreting and adapting this motive in the context of civic solidarity, social responsibility, and constructive creation in non-military and peaceful settings, ensuring its relevance for future generations.
