Abstract. The article is devoted to the analysis of the formation of the sociocultural identity of a military man in a military education. The article compares the concepts of «military culture», «warrior culture», «culture of military service» based on the positions of various researchers. The main goal setting of the author is associated with the need to integrate military culture into the general system of society’s culture, with the search for mechanisms for the inter conditionality of the functioning of diverse social institutions and the institution of military service.

The main basis for the formation of military (and, more broadly ‒ sociocultural) identity is considered military universities. The sociocultural aspect of training at a military university is analyzed from the perspective of a subject-subject approach. Learning, built on the basis of subject-subject interaction, is interpreted as feedback and subsequent adjustment of students’ worldviews in the course of everyday activities, which creates conditions not only for them to assimilate culture, but also for its reproduction. The subjects of influence are teachers, commanders of military university students, and military psychologists. It is they who ensure the translation of the components of the construct of culture, the continuity of generations is one of the main tasks of education. In this case, military university students are set up by subjects with the goal of assimilating the cultural components for personal development and subsequently themselves to be carriers of military culture.

It is concluded that the sociocultural approach to educational activity is the basis for the continuity of military culture: the creation, preservation, translation, transmission and assimilation of values, traditions, ideas, mentality, which serves as the basic tool for forming the identity of the army’s sociocultural institution. The article presents the subject-subject model of the initial stage in the formation of the culture of future officers.
