The attitude of students towards distance learning in a pandemic: a sociological analysis

Abstract. The article analyzes the attitude of modern students towards the transition to distance learning in the context of the coronavirus pandemic (Covid-19). The author notes that the prevailing epidemiological conditions contributed to the formation of a new educational environment with an increased role of distance learning technologies, which led to the accelerated inclusion of student youth in the field of digital technologies. In this connection, the issues related to the adaptation of students to new conditions, the assessment through the eyes of modern students of the effectiveness of distance learning were analyzed. Using the method of a questionnaire survey, the author explores the problem field, including the main difficulties of a social, psychophysiological, technological nature, which the student community faced during the period of active development of a new, different from the traditional, teaching format. The empirical basis of the study was the data of a survey conducted among students of socio-economic areas of training of the Tyumen Industrial University. The data obtained during the questionnaire survey made it possible to draw the following conclusions. Student youth are aware of the relevance of distance learning technologies and the need to maintain a high level of digital literacy in modern realities. The distance learning format is considered by students as one of the challenges of the era of digitalization of education, the opportunity to master modern technologies and communication formats, while its clear advantages over traditional ones are indicated. The survey made it possible to highlight the main problems that students faced in the process of distance learning: the growth of psychological fatigue and a sense of social isolation, lack of face-to-face communications with classmates and teachers, lack of skills for self-organization and effective use of time resources, decreased mental well-being, and others.
