Abstract. The subject of our current dissertation research is journalistic reportage. This article considers journalistic reportage as a discourse. The concept of «discourse of journalistic reportage» can be justified by the existing definitions of the concept of «discourse», «journalistic discourse» presented in the article and the features of the reportage text compared with them, which are the distinctive aspects of this genre.
Within the framework of this article, an attempt was made to consider authentic reportages in English through the prism of the concept of discourse in publicism in order to determine the main theoretical stages of information formation in this genre, as well as practical techniques, language units of reports that the author uses to achieve certain goals.
The purpose and objectives of the work predetermined the use of the following methods of linguistic analysis: the method of sampling when selecting material from sources, the method of linguistic description using the methods of classification and systematization, the structural-semantic method. The elements of distributive and contextual analysis served to identify the characteristic features of the functioning and patterns of the use of linguistic means in English.
The research material is journalistic reportages from authentic print and electronic publications in the UK and the USA, such as «Guardian», «Independent», «Telegraph», «The Times», «Daily Mail», «Daily Express», «Daily Mirror», «The Sun», and «Time», «Reader’s Digest», «Science Reporter» and others, using the official Internet sites of well-known newspapers and magazines, television and Internet channels.
