Abstract. The article presents the monitoring results of the Yakut language functioning in modern periodicals. Monitoring of the usage of the linguistic means in republican periodicals in the Yakut language is carried out based on the newspapers Kyym, Sakha Sire, and Encieli (September issues of 2022). In the modern socio-political Yakut language discourse, the main problem is the spelling and translation of borrowed socio-political terminology. Based on this, the purpose of the study was to analyze the Russian-Yakut translation of borrowed socio-political vocabulary and the sentence structure in the three publications mentioned. With the continuous sampling method, the socio-political vocabulary used in the publications of periodicals is collected. The study also uses a statistical method to determine the frequency of using different ways of translating borrowed terminological units, generalization methods, interpretation, classification, and comparative interpretation to determine the socio-political vocabulary topics, compliance with spelling rules, and other literary norms in republican newspapers. The analysis revealed: (1) the newspapers «Sakha Sire», and «Kyym», when translating borrowed socio-political vocabulary, prefer the transcription method, according to the Yakut language spelling rule of 2015, and the newspaper «Encieli» — the transliteration method; (2) the actual translation is not used as often; (3) the largest percentage of translation by different versions is shown by the newspaper «Kyym» (22.5 %), followed by «Encieli» (17.3 %) and «Sakha Sire» (14.3 %); (4) mixed translation is used in the complex terminology transfer, nomenclature names of persons, departments, bodies, territories; (5) «Encieli» newspaper is recommended to bring the spelling of borrowed vocabulary used in its publications in line with the spelling dictionary of 2015; (6) all three periodicals should pay close attention to the observance of the literary, usual, stylistic norms of the Yakut language. In the future, it is planned to compile a Russian-Yakut dictionary of socio-political vocabulary used in the media.
