Abstract. The article is devoted to the study of the linguistic personality of the author of the novelette of the Silver Age in the linguistic and pragmatic aspects. The pragmatic level of a linguistic personality forms the very image of the world, which the linguistic personality translates in his texts. The linguistic personality of the author is the main subject of a literary text, which is characterized by an individual author’s picture of the world, structured on the basis of the categorization of the world in the ideological and aesthetic terms. The genre chosen by the author for the implementation of the artistic concept also acquires a special role. The novella is one of those genres that allows the author to realize the basic aesthetic principles of modernity, while the traditional novelistic form transforms under the influence of the need to consider ontological topics in a timeless perspective. The linguistic personality of the author of the Silver Age novelette is characterized by an extensive historical, socio- and linguocultural outlook, which is realized in the literary text through precedent phenomena. The author of the novel produces a fabulous manner in which he is presented as a collection of several linguistic personalities. As a result of the study, it was found that the linguistic personality of the author of the Silver Age novelette is characterized by a tendency to minimize the characters’ inner speech and open motivation of actions, which naturally enhances the dynamism of the action and activates artistic detailing through lexical and syntactic marking. The author’s linguistic personality is also characterized by explicit and implicit subjective modality, which is found at all levels of the literary text of the novel. The linguistic-pragmatic specificity of linguistic and textual units participating in the formation of the semantic space of a literary text, hypothetically correlates with genre traditions and innovations, and the elucidation of their dialectical interaction turns out to be very promising for the scientific paradigm of modern linguistics.
