Abstract. The article is devoted to the issue of using stylistic transformations in a literary text as an analysis tool. Classical fiction can undoubtedly be used as study material for learning and teaching foreign languages, in particular French. Besides it can become a good base for working with modern culture-bound words. The authors describe several interpretations of a famous fable as well as its translations from French into Russian. Such “imitations” allow to expand one’s view to the main message and the problems the author of the story touches upon. Moreover, such method can be used for studying literature and foreign languages. Traditionally, the plot of the story as well as the opportunity to make different stylistic transformations can be interesting for students who study language using different methodological forms, such as monologues, dialogues, essays etc. However this the issue is slightly mentioned in the article and can find its development in further research. A special attention should be paid the material which was used for writing the article and which contains rather literature devoted to the topic of the research.

Keywords: stylistic transformations; literary text; French language; text interpretation; fable; literature studies; pedagogics
