Abstract. The project method, or project method, is currently one of the most sought-after forms of working with students, widely implemented in educational practice. Students’ project-based research activities are recommended by the Federal State Educational Standard of the Third Generation for mandatory use in the learning process, regardless of the subject area. The attribution of the technique we are interested in to the relatively new formats of work in the modern lesson should be considered conditional (first described by William Kilpatrick more than a century ago), it is more correct to talk about a certain interpretation, a new look at the possibilities of the project method. Despite the widespread use of this technology in general, it is Russian language teachers who experience some difficulties in using the method due to the specifics of the subject itself, primarily the ways in which the project method is introduced into the structure of lessons and extracurricular activities.

In the article, the authors propose material that will help the teacher understand how to use the project method, which attracts the breadth of topics and the variety of forms of the final product, when teaching Russian language and literature. An analysis of the essence of the project method, a description of the features of its main characteristics, and a typology, accompanied by specific examples and recommendations, will allow a teacher of Russian language and literature to successfully introduce technology into the educational process and fully realize the tasks of modern school education: the development of general academic skills (research, reflexive, self-assessment).
