Abstract. At present, the comprehension of the theme of patriotism in the changing social reality is taking place very intensively. The influence of the place and role of the heroic past of our country in the formation of patriotism among the younger generation is analyzed. The author notes the need to take into account the experience of veterans of the Great Patriotic War. In the course of a sociological survey with veterans of the Great Patriotic War, residents of the city of Moscow, conducted on the eve of the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory, the role of state and military governing bodies and, in particular, the country’s leader, Generalissimo Stalin I. IN. and the patriotic feat of the victorious people in victory in the Great Patriotic War, as well as the preservation of true historical memory in the minds of the younger generation. In a situation of growing confrontation, information warfare in military-patriotic activities, the article talks about the need to propagate genuine knowledge about the heroism of our people. The article shows the veterans’ assessment of the organizational and mobilizing role of the command in the victory over fascism. The study confirmed the hypothesis of a high assessment of the management and, in particular, of the personality of I.V. Stalin and their managerial role in the successful defeat of the fascist army.

Despite the devastation of the country’s economy, veterans, in the socio-psychological context, veterans note the high emotional mood of the entire population of the country.

Historical parallels are drawn from the historical past to the present and the future.

The article reflects the veterans’ assessments of the degree of existing military threats to the national security of Russia, the place of our country in the world international arena. The degree of satisfaction of veterans with social security and state care for them is shown.
