Abstract. Some aspects of the methodology for research into the system of management of military-patriotic training of citizens are described in the article. The author puts forward a hypothesis that in order to increase effectiveness of military-patriotic activity management it is necessary to take a broader view of the problem, i.e. the process including military-patriotic education, military-patriotic upbringing, personality formation.

The main aim of the study is to develop a management concept aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of military-patriotic activity. The research objectives are outlined in the following areas: world outlook and cognitive, continuity of traditions and social experience of the older generation, moral guidance, etc.

In order to obtain primary information, the following methods are considered: the study of documents and Internet search engines, active participant observation, interviews, questionnaire surveys.

The following functions of military-patriotic training are singled out: world outlook, communicative, moral, and the direct embodiment of patriotism in the social behaviour of an individual. The key stages of the sociological research methodology for social management problems of military-patriotic training effectiveness are formulated. The article outlines the indices and indicators for measuring the condition of the management system of military-patriotic training. The article states that the central aim of military-patriotic preparation is to form in citizens, the country’s young generation the necessary qualities for protection of the Fatherland, including armed ones; the degree of formation of these qualities, and consequently the effect of educational influences can be assessed by the social behaviour of personality under certain conditions. Therefore, the author proposes to measure the state of this problem with the help of indicators which, with a certain degree of probability, will characterize the level of knowledge, patriotic notions, ideas which define his behaviour and identity of young people in the sphere of military-patriotic training of citizens and their readiness to defend the Fatherland we are studying. In other words, by measuring the level of knowledge and the level of beliefs. At the same time, the level of beliefs is supposed to be measured through attitudes, social orientations, interests and motives of citizens, characterizing on the whole its military-patriotic consciousness.
