Abstract. The article continues a series of publications devoted to the analysis of the phenomenon of trust through the prism of the concepts of the classics of sociology. The author notes that it is necessary to start a theoretical analysis of the problems of modern society with the understanding of the ideas of recognized classics of sociological thought. Auguste Comte understood trust as the most important prerequisite for the emergence of a «positive society.» The greatest Comte trust is manifested in the reference groups. Herbert Spencer examines the role of trust in the management structure of a «belligerent type of society», as well as the problem of correlating the concepts of «truthfulness» and «trust». Spencer noted the trend towards personification of trust in military-type societies. It is important that a lack of knowledge in people can lead to a situation of false trust. According to Spencer, the effective operation of an organization presupposes the successful functioning of interrelated elements: cooperation, mutual trust of members of the organization, respect for the rights of others. In the writings of Emile Durkheim, trust is directly related to the organization of social order and overcoming the state of anomie. Rational mistrust, doubt and critical perception of social facts help prevent total deception and disorder in society. Also, according to Durkheim, the primitive forms of religious life are based on the feeling of «joyful trust.» In conclusion, it is concluded that even a fragmentary examination of the works of the classics of sociology allows us to draw conclusions about the relevance of their ideas. The author argues that most of these ideas, to one degree or another, formed the basis of all modern concepts of sociological research of trust.
