Abstract. The article is devoted to the problem of art’s communicative potentials. A careful account is given to the consideration of other spiritual cultures’ forms (religion, science), in terms of their readiness and openness for fixation and cognition of the Other. In his work the author showed that art is the most appropriate and preferred sphere for the cultures’ dialogue, especially in the context of a military conflict. To compare these spiritual cultures’ forms the author comes to a conclusion that freedom of art, its openness to the Other, the desire to bring harmony to the always dramatic world, makes it a phenomenon that is as open as possible for the realization of dialogue. Much attention is given to description and analysis of the Russian-Caucasian poetic relations of the first half of the XIX century in the context of dialogical interaction. The author identifies three components of the romantic Caucasus image: geographical, traditional and confessional. Caucasian images of Russia, on the one hand, are more unambiguous in their interpretations. The other here appears as the enemy. On the other hand, art has fixed another aspect of the Other’s image. The Other here is like «his» and forced to experience the drama of wartime. The appeal to the Russian-Caucasian relations seems promising, relevant and timely, because it contributes to the formation of a multicultural climate in our country and the region, as well as contributes to the growth of mutual understanding and respect between peoples and cultures.

Keywords: art; another; different; the image of Russia; the image of the Caucasus; the dialogue of cultures; the culture of the dialogue’s cultures
