Abstract. The article examines the role of lexical competence as an essential component of communicative competence, including foreign language competence. Globalization and integration processes, the requirements of modern higher education determine the need for fluency in foreign languages. The author has thoroughly studied the relationship between the vocabulary used and the effectiveness of communication in foreign languages, and has emphasized the importance of incorporating active and continuous vocabulary acquisition into the educational process.

The primary goal of this research is to address the challenges faced by students in learning foreign languages, including in their daily lives. Practical and empirical data confirm the fact that the quality and level of vocabulary acquisition and mastery have a significant impact on the overall level of foreign language communicative competence. The results of the study confirmed the hypothesis about the direct relationship between communicative abilities and the size of the active vocabulary. It was revealed that due to insufficient vocabulary acquisition, students are often unable to express themselves effectively and use professional-oriented vocabulary, which negatively affects their ability to understand foreign speech.

The author concludes that the development of competent and high-quality lexical competence is essential for successful foreign language acquisition. The author also provides recommendations aimed at actively expanding vocabulary, developing communication skills, and shaping behavior and speech patterns in professional and everyday life.
