Abstract. This article analyzes the experience of developing sets of Olympiad tasks in the Russian language for high school students. Its purpose is to summarize and expand on the basic principles of composing Olympiad tasks and demonstrate how these principles are implemented in specific examples. Based on the analysis of conceptual approaches, the author formulated recommendations for constructing Olympiad tasks: tasks should be developmental in nature, enabling students to fully demonstrate their creative potential and linguistic acumen. Experience serving on the methodology committee of the Plekhanov Olympiad for School Students demonstrated that considerable attention should be paid to the scientific literacy of presentation and the precision of the wording presented to students when developing materials. Continuity in the composition of tasks for grades 9 and 10–11, as well as the inclusion of cross-cutting questions in sets of different stages of the test, are important. The most advanced type of Olympiad tasks — self-contained linguistic tasks — is presented in the article by several subtypes: tasks involving systemic language analysis and tasks constructed based on the principle of linguistic «guessing». It is revealed that interdisciplinarity is becoming a leading trend in the development of Olympiad tasks. The article defines the basic principles of assessing test-takers’ performance and substantiates the need to develop detailed evaluation criteria.
The scientific knowledge obtained in the study provides a foundation for further study of the principles of composing Olympiad tasks in Russian for high school students. The practical significance of the study lies in the development of methodological recommendations, including examples of Olympiad tasks.
Keywords: Russian Language Olympiad; principles of composing Olympiad assignments; linguistic problems; linguistic «guess»; language material; vocabulary; word formation; etymology; historical grammar
