Abstract. The article demonstrates the possibilities of applying the discourse of postcolonial studies and the decolonial turn to the analysis of artistic practices. The artistic practices of Damir Muratov were chosen as the object of study, where he works with images of «Siberianness» and «Omskness». Through the analysis of the paintings «United States of Siberia», «United Kingdom of Siberia», «Siberia — the Island of Freedom», as well as the series of works «If they were born in Siberia» and «Moss», semantic techniques are identified that allow us to determine how the representation of the discourse of the global and local in artistic material. The artist simultaneously uses cliches about Siberia and deconstructs them. In the works of Damir Muratov one can find markers of postcolonial and decolonial discourses of understanding the global and local. The postcolonial narrative of locality is constructed ironically by introducing global images into the local context, which leads to the deconstruction of the global, while simultaneously inscribing local meanings into global trends. Narratives and visualizations of local identity are constructed by swinging between irony over one’s provincialism and sincerity, manifested in the poeticization of regional specifics that are different from the metropolitan and global narratives. Decolonial discourse is represented through the search for original meanings of locality beyond binary oppositions, where the local is opposed to either the global or the metropolitan (center). Decolonial discourse allows us to return subjectivity to the narrative of local identity, because the key characteristics of the local are not represented in comparison with something else, the Other, and locality acquires its own language and imagery.
