Abstract. The article analyzes the possibilities of using time as a way to measure changes in the objects of socio-humanitarian knowledge. To use this method, each time the researcher must determine what exactly can be measured and what will act as a unit of measurement. If units of astronomical time external to the objects under study are chosen as the unit, we are dealing with a quantitative approach. If the content-semantic characteristics of the studied objects are chosen as units, time is used in its qualitative version. It is shown that the combination of these two approaches is carried out in chronocartography.
