Abstract. The article examines the phenomena of neology: on the basis of actual linguistic material, the use of culinary vocabulary in word-forming processes (the name of dishes, vegetables, household items intended for cooking), which has become the basis for the production of both simple and complex derivatives, is studied, attention is paid to the nature of word formation methods, among which it is found as usual The role of the derivational mechanisms of language in the reflection of the «cultural code» is shown (ac-cording to V.N. Telia), in revealing the creative potential of the linguistic personality. The relevance of the research is determined by the importance of studying a new vocabulary, in which the connection between the phenomena of reality, a person and his value attitude to them is realized by means of language. The purpose of the work is to study the structural, semantic and functional features of neologisms of culinary and gastronomic topics. The sources of the language material are the information and search lexicographic resource «New in Russian vocabulary. Dictionary materials» ILR RAS (St. Petersburg), as well as telegram channel by B. Iomdin «Learned a new word». Based on the analysis, it can be concluded that culinary and gastro-nomic neologisms created as a result of the action of the word-formation mechanisms of the modern Russian language, performing nominative, reflect important socio-political events of modern life, their assessment, verbalize the speech intentions of speakers.
