Abstract. The relevance of the study of this problem is due to the fact that career movements of officers are an important aspect of the development and efficiency of the military organization. Analyzing these movements can provide valuable information about social mobility and forecasting future changes in the social structure of the Armed Forces. This article identifies the various factors and social barriers that impede the achievement of goals, as well as opportunities to minimize them. The study of barriers has not only theoretical but also practical significance, as they play a crucial role in planning and shaping the career of officers. These topical problems determine the purpose of the article: on the basis of the conducted research to identify social obstacles and barriers to professional and position mobility, to assess the real prospects of career advancement, to determine the level of influence of certain components of the mechanism of regulation of officers’ career.

In April-October 2023, the author conducted a sociological study of the problems of career movements of junior and senior officers, which made it possible to identify a number of problematic issues related to the career of the officer corps. The methodological concept of the research is implemented through the use of informalized directed interview and sociological survey.

The research is based on the hypothesis about the possible negative impact of barriers that impede the career growth of officers. To identify social barriers, the author analyzed: the role of the certification commission for a comprehensive and objective assessment of an officer, assessed the degree of its transparency and importance in making personnel decisions, determined the level of public accessibility of criteria for professional and career growth, revealed the most significant organizational and personal barriers to career growth.
