Abstract. The article discusses the features of the specifics of the penitentiary resocialization of convicts professing Islam, during the period of serving a criminal sentence in the form of imprisonment. The specificity of this social community is determined by the ethno-religious and ethno-cultural peculiarity, which is manifested not so much in the nature of socially dangerous acts committed, but in the specifics of religious traditions and attitudes. As a rule, in sociological studies, this category is defined as “prisoners” (meaning that they are isolated from society), which is methodologically not entirely correct. And here, not only the peculiarity of legal casuistry is manifested, but, above all, the socio-cultural characteristics that define a Muslim as a specific type of personality.

The article reveals the essential characteristic of the re-socializing impact on a person practicing Islam, at all stages, of his forced interaction with the law enforcement system of the state. Having committed a crime, such a person is isolated from society and included in the orbit of various penitentiary practices. Food, depending on the change, its legal status (prisoner — convicted — released), the nature of resocialization also changes. This makes it possible to establish the sequence of the resocializing impact on a Muslim who has broken the law at all stages of the penal process (the penitentiary and post-penitentiary periods of resocialization of convicts).
