Abstract. The article is devoted to female images in the folklore of the Mansi people (on the example of heroic songs and fairy tales). The research materials were the texts of heroic songs and fairy tales published by foreign researchers and translated into Mansi and Russian. The purpose of the study is to study female images in the texts of Mansi heroic songs and fairy tales, their systematization. In the work, for the first time, female images were analyzed and their classification into groups was made, which is the scientific novelty of the study. The main research methods were structural-semantic analysis, historical-typological and comparative-comparative, as well as methods of cultural studies. The object of the study was the Mansi female images in heroic songs and fairy tales. The theoretical basis was the research of scientists: V.M. Zhurminsky, E.N. Kuzmina, V.Ya. Propp, E.M. Meletinsky, Z.S. Kazagachev and many others. The basis for the image of women in the culture and literature of the Mansi people was the works of S.A. Popova, S.S. Dinislamova, O.Yu. Dinislamova, L.N. Panchenko and others.
In heroic songs and fairy tales, a woman acts not only as a guardian of the family hearth, but also as an assistant to her husband, a wise adviser, as a warrior, protector, but also as a villain and traitor.
Despite the fact that Mansi heroic songs and tales are currently being analyzed, studied by folklorists, foreign and domestic, however, they are insufficiently studied, they have not become the subject of special study. The practical significance of the study lies in the fact that the results can be applied in the comparative typological study of the epos of the Finno-Ugric peoples.
