Medical tourism: role, significance, factors of change and consequences for Russia and the world

Abstract. The article defines the role and importance of medical tourism for the socio-economic development of not only individual countries, associated both with the rapid development of medicine, the preservation and extension of people’s lives, income generation and GDP growth, but also with the world as a whole. The consequences of the epidemic of coronovirus infection for various countries are revealed. Factors of shifting supply and demand in the market of tourist services are established, including those related to the politicization of the industry. It also identifies countries that can become an alternative for medical tourists from Russia due to the difficult geopolitical situation and the closure of borders by a number of states.
