Abstract. The Korean language is one of the languages in which synonymy is highly developed. The authors of the article identified 33 units of synonymous words alone that denote a married woman in Korean society by means of a continuous sample from Korean-Russian, Russian-Korean, as well as explanatory dictionaries of the Korean language. The authors of the article are interested in why there are so many words in the Korean language with the meaning «wife» and what is the function of each of these words. Thus, the purpose of the study carried out within the framework of this article is to characterize synonymous words with the meaning «wife» in the Korean language by the method of lexical and semantic analysis of all identified words. The research material consisted of 33 words with the meaning «wife» from the Korean language corpora which are using in real communicative situations. Most examples were identified for the word 부인 [puin] (2830 examples), least of all for the word 작은 마누라 [chagyn manura] (8 examples). The article provides a description of all 33 synonymous words meaning «wife», supported by examples from the Korean language corpus. As a result of the study, it was revealed that all the synonyms of the Korean language with the meaning «wife» are used in the modern Korean language, knowledge of the meanings of which is very important for successful intercultural communication. The results obtained will be used in further work on the classification of synonyms with the meaning «wife» in Korean. At the end of the article, there are several options for classifications of synonyms proposed by linguists, on the basis of can be made a classification of synonyms with the meaning «wife» in Korean.
