Abstract. The article reveals the lexicographical representation of the «province» concept conducted on the basis of linguistic dictionary data analysis. The semantic, pragmatic, phraseological and stylistic features of the above mentioned concept are described. Nowadays integrated description of lexical units through the lexicographical representation is widely used due to its possibility of characterizing the word etymology and its functioning in languages by revealing its semantic features. According to the scientific research the lexeme «province» is Latinism brought to Russian through the intermediary languages. This nomination has been represented in Interpretative dictionaries since XVIII century. The «province» concept is considered to be polysemantic one including a number of ethnocultural connotations represented in the derivatives of the lexeme. The synonymous sets with the «province» dominant includes a considerable number of nominations that differ in the sphere of their functioning and negative connotations. Different kinds of dictionaries include some phraseological units nominating the «province» concept varying their number from 3 to 6 units. The analysis makes the conclusion that the lexicographical portrait and representation of the «province» concept reveals the ambiguity and heterogeneity of its nature and it is considered to be an important item in the linguistic consciousness of Russian speakers.
