Abstract. This article examines the role of A.S. Pushkin in the further development of Russian literature. Particular attention is devoted to the image of the «superfluous person». The aim of the study is to identify the features of the influence of Pushkin’s work on the image of the «superfluous person» in Russian literature of the 19th century. To achieve this goal, the following tasks were set: to identify the role of Pushkin in the history of Russian literature, to determine the archetype of the «superfluous person» in «Eugene Onegin», to identify this archetype in other works of Russian literature of the 19th century, and, after analyzing their characters, to identify similarities with the «extra man» of Pushkin. The novelty of the article lies in two factors. Firstly, studies of the influence of the image of Eugene Onegin from the novel of the same name by Pushkin on the image of the «superfluous person» in Russian literature of the 19th century have not been previously carried out in Russian literary criticism. Secondly, this study is being conducted for the first time by a foreign, in particular, Chinese, researcher from the standpoint of Chinese Russian studies. In the article, the image of the «superfluous person» is analyzed through the works of A.S. Pushkin, M.Yu. Lermontov, I.S. Turgenev and I.A. Goncharova. The author analyzes the evolution of this image and the role played by the work of A.S. Pushkin on the formation of this image. The main conclusions of the study include the following. Firstly, Pushkin was the first to create the image of the «superfluous person» in Russian literature, and the fullness and versatility of this image became a model for all subsequent literature in Russia. Secondly, in terms of the portrait of the characters in the works of M.Yu. Lermontov, I.S. Turgenev and I.A. Goncharov, you can find many features of Eugene Onegin. The image of a superfluous person created by Pushkin — a person unable to find his place in society and peace in his own soul — reflected the deep problems of Russian society in the 19th century. and served as a portrait of more than one generation of the Russian nobility. This portrait was later reproduced in many works of Russian literature of the 19th century.
