Abstract. The relevance of the work is associated with the increasing interest of researchers in the problem of studying creolized text, that is, a text based on verbal units and various paragraph signs that have the ability to encode additional information in the text of virtual communication.
In this article, we will focus on the problem of content status and pragmatic features of one specific paragraph – the emoticon sign. The emoticon sign is a frequent structural element in the texts of virtual communication that has arisen on the Internet. However, until now this sign has not been studied in detail: from the point of view of its semantic subtleties and pragmatic capabilities.
The author of the article made an attempt to analyze the paragraph (smile) from the standpoint of the linguistic sign, using the procedures of linguistic analysis. On the basis of theoretical generalizations of the semantic properties of the sign and its pragmatic properties, we can formulate the following features inherent in the emoticon sign: the emoticon sign has basic features of a linguistic sign (isomorphism, an associative-semantic relationship between the signifier and the signified, a sign of asymmetry, as well as motivation/unmotivation values). The property of iconicity makes the sign more transparent, its internal form is understandable to native speakers, which brings this sign closer to the word.
We have proposed a linguistic model of the emoticon sign, reflecting its pragmatic properties. As the components of this model, the following components are highlighted: semantic, pragmatic, sigmatic and syntactic, combined into a single semantic-pragmatic complex. Based on the analysis of the semantic-pragmatic complex of the sign-emoticon, two levels of semiosis of the sign were identified: the micro level, which reflects the linguistic features of the sign, and the macro level, at which the relationship of the sign-emoticon with other elements of the creolized text is established.
Thus, modeling and describing the semantic-pragmatic model of the emoticon sign allows us to verify the assumption that the emoticon sign is a complex, multicomponent semantic structure, by its properties defined as a linguistic sign. The results obtained reveal the prospects for further study of the thesaurus of emoticons from the standpoint of the linguistic sign.
