Abstract. The scientific article analyzes the semantic content and relationship of the following concepts: socialization, desocialization, resocialization, asocialization, as well as the definitions derived from them – «resocialization of prisoners» and «resocialization of persons released from prison». Such components of the resocialization process as its goal, objectives, result and mechanisms of resocialization are considered. Special attention is paid to the impact of the social environment on the processes of re-socialization of persons released from prison. It is pointed out that at the present stage of its existence, the urbanized urban community has not yet managed to form stable and effective mechanisms for countering both the escalation of social tension and the growth of the number of people who are maladapted or insufficiently adapted to life in it.

Discussing the essence of socialization in the process of social formation, development, implementation through assimilation (adaptation), reproduction (integration) and improvement (individualization) of the culture of society, it is emphasized that the result of socialization is the assimilation and improvement of spiritual values (spirituality), which represents the peak of socialization. In the context of studying the resocialization of prisoners, sociality is considered as a component of socialization, which is provided by the norms of social education. In order to avoid terminological confusion, the article provides a detailed explanation of the differences between the terms socialization and resocialization of prisoners, the latter according to the author’s idea should be considered the result of repeated social formation, development, mastering and reproduction of socially positive life experience in society. Forming a high level of sociality of prisoners in the course of resocialization, it is concluded that it is possible to gradually increase the level of socialization, which logically follows the author’s reasoning that this process will solve an important task for the country to ensure a high level of resocialization of the prisoner.

It is emphasized that the content content of the resocialization process will be incomplete without an analysis and justification of the mechanisms of resocialization of prisoners, which will allow us to understand how the resocialized personality of the prisoner is formed. The author emphasizes that the collective criterion of the effectiveness of the process of re-socialization is «the trajectory of re-socialization» which is understood as the return of the prisoner to normative socialization, the result of which is a personal development and recovery process of normative socialization.
