Abstract. Calligraphy is one of the national treasures of traditional Chinese culture and the national cultural heritage of China, which has a long and deep history and carries the wisdom and emotions of Chinese people. At present, calligraphy has quite a high status in Chinese culture and educational activities, and at this stage, it has risen to the level of national cultural policy. The Ministry of Education has made it clear that the teaching of calligraphy should be raised to the level of transmitting the beautiful traditional Chinese culture. Colleges and universities should provide quality teaching of the art of calligraphy, carry out the inheritance and promotion of the art of calligraphy, and contribute to the artistic and cultural prosperity of China.
This paper elaborates on the art and culture of Chinese calligraphy, utilizing the methodology of interdisciplinary cross-study of this cultural phenomenon, including art history, cultural history, psychology, aesthetics and philosophy. The study of calligraphy plays many roles, the most important of which is to help learn and understand the beautiful traditional culture of the motherland, stimulate the sense of identity and pride in the national culture; secondly, the use of calligraphic art education to develop people’s artistic skills, nurture feelings and enhance aesthetic qualities. By studying and mastering the art of calligraphy, people of various ethnicities and peoples can better understand and master the traditional culture of the Chinese nation, its spiritual traditions, and the Chinese culture.
