Abstract. The end of the 20th century — the beginning of the 21st century gave rise to a new subject for discussion: we are talking about a review in the culture of scientific communication. The question is incomprehensible: the review has a serious history of formation, and, moreover, is an indicator of communication within the scientific community. The modern digital world is forced to reconsider the attitude towards the review, especially since there are opinions about the dangers of measuring the state of science. We are talking about changing priorities, transforming the motivation of researchers, changing the way results are presented and the accuracy of scientific literature. To date, review as a tool of expertise is directly related to bibliometrics, as a result, most scientists spend energy and time on the strategy of publishing the results obtained.

The article introduces the history of the formation of review as a genre in the Russian academic environment; describes the formation of the structure and qualitative specifics of the review as a type of service document, as well as the significance in the award of scientific degrees. In addition, attention is drawn to the lag of the peer review genre from the pace of scientific communication, as well as to the process of routinizing the practice of peer review in the modern scientific industry.

The author of the article introduces the tasks of review in the formation of the scientific community, as well as the functions of review and peer review speech. The question of the importance of the normative order of review and peer-review speech is raised, since at present, especially in the field of social sciences, there is a process of active adjustment of the scientific text by the norms of journalism and political discourse.
