Abstract. The article provides an overview of sources devoted to the study of medical innovations and those determined by the functioning of the healthcare system in the context of digitalization and the increasing use of artificial intelligence. The purpose of the article is an attempt to summarize and analyze modern research on medical innovations in scientific sources of various levels, their evolution at the present time, as well as a retrospective analysis of sources during the period of active digitalization of the healthcare sector. Given the high differentiation of sources on the topic of medical innovations, this article can claim the type of descriptive review article according to the typology of review articles.

The search for articles for the review was carried out using the keywords «medical innovations» and «innovations in healthcare» in the Russian scientific electronic library integrated with the Russian Science Citation Index (RISC), eLibrary.Ru and the unified bibliographic and abstract database of peer-reviewed scientific literature Scopus (https://www.elsevier.com) in the main European languages (English, French, Spanish, German, Czech) and Chinese. It was revealed that the vast majority of the most valuable articles on the topic of medical innovations are published in English, even if the authors represent non-English-speaking countries. This is due to the fact that international journals on the stated subject are also published mainly in English. Two informative articles selected for the review were published in Spanish. The search in other languages did not bring significant results, the articles did not fully correspond to the field of research or were absent altogether.

Keywords: medical innovations; public health system; digitalization; artificial intelligence
