Abstract. The article analyzes the names of the Kalmyk monetary units in the context of folklore works. The material for the analysis was the texts of Kalmyk proverbs, sayings, riddles and folk songs, in which lexemes with the meaning «money» are widely represented.

Proverb-saying, song forms, very compressed in form, but deep in content, are the most typical in reflecting the deep meaning of the text and contain valuable information for the reconstruction of certain segments of the folklore picture of the world of the ethnic group.

Monetary nominations of the Kalmyk language have a wide range of meanings, which are achieved in the texts of folklore works through both lexical units and syntactic constructions. The names of monetary units, representing a small layer of the modern Kalmyk language, are considered in the article in the lexico-semantic aspect.

The names of the monetary units mongn ‘money’, arslng ‘ruble’, shaalg ‘copper money, coppers’, denshg ‘penny’ and some lexemes used in the folklore text in the meaning of money, value, symbolic exchange, as well as nominations formed by syntactic constructions: tsaһan mөngn ‘silver coins’, altn mongn ‘gold coins’, ulan mongn ‘copper coins’, zes mongn ‘copper coins’, tsaasn mongn ‘paper money’. The main monetary nomination in the Kalmyk language is the lexeme мongn with the general meaning of ‘money’. The lexemes arsln ‘ruble’ and denshg ‘kopeck’ act as a specific monetary nomination.

The study of vocabulary with the meaning «money» in the article is carried out taking into account the peculiarities of the folklore text, the description of the semantics of a particular lexeme in its various combinations, which makes it possible to most fully reveal the features of the semantic structure of the word. In this aspect, the names of monetary units of the Kalmyk language are considered for the first time.
