Abstract. This article presents an analysis of the attitude of the host community towards migrants in a multiethnic environment. The authors conducted a quantitative sociological study using a formalized interview at the place of residence of the respondents. 700 people took part in the survey. The composition of the respondents corresponds to the composition of residents of the region aged 18 and older by nationality. The study was conducted in accordance with the methodology developed by the Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs of Russia. This technique allows for the sociological monitoring of key indicators of the state of interethnic relations and migration processes in the country. The purpose of the study was to identify the main trends in the development of interethnic relations and migration processes in the Republic of Mordovia. The authors present the results of a sociological study that demonstrate a fairly high level of interethnic tolerance in the main ethnic communities of the region, such as Russians, Mordvins and Tatars. The stability of interethnic relations and the absence of open interethnic conflicts are noted. However, a small percentage of respondents expressed hostility towards migrants. As a result of the study, the authors found that in the Republic of Mordovia, as in one of the multiethnic regions, there is no confrontation between immigrants and the local population. However, there are concerns and wariness about migrant workers in everyday life. These results indicate the formation of a tolerant attitude of representatives of different nationalities towards immigrants who adhere to different cultural and religious attitudes.
