Abstract. This article presents an analysis of the demographic situation, reproductive behavior of rural residents and an assessment of socio-economic measures of demographic policy in the field of regulation of reproductive behavior. The authors conducted an online survey of the population of the Atyrau region. 364 people between the ages of 18 and 49 took part in the survey. The sample structure corresponds to the age and gender composition of the district’s population. The study was conducted as part of the pilot project «Increasing the birth rate and increasing the duration of active life», implemented in the Atyrau region of the Republic of Mordovia. The purpose of the study was to identify the main trends in the reproductive behavior of residents of the Atyrau region. The authors present the results of a sociological study indicating the predominance of low-income, mainly two-child, attitudes among the rural population. The key factors preventing the birth of children (including the first child) were identified. An effective assessment was also carried out of additional state support measures aimed at increasing the birth rate and improving the socio-economic situation of families with children, as well as preserving reproductive health and supporting motherhood. As a result of the study, the authors found that an increase in the birth rate depends on the implementation of state support measures in the field of demographic and family policy. The results of the study can be intended for the heads of municipal districts and heads of republican structures, as well as used to develop municipal programs aimed at addressing topical issues of demographic and strengthening the institution of the family.
