Abstract. The current demographic situation has a significant impact on the economic development of the country. A prolonged trend towards a decrease in the number of the population, problems in the field of fertility, changes in the age structure of the population, and a decrease in the number of labor resources in the medium and long term can cause serious problems in the field of economic security of the state. Under these conditions, improving the demographic situation in the country is becoming the most important strategic task and the highest national priori-ty of Russia. Effective management of population reproduction presupposes a targeted impact on all its components, identified in the strategic planning documents. One of the priority directions of the implementation of the policy of national conservation is the growth of the quality of life of the population, combining a complex of social, economic and spiritual aspects that contribute to the preservation and reproduction of human potential. Priority attention should be given to demographically depressed regions, which are experiencing prolonged and sustained depopulation, primarily due to low birth rates. The purpose of the research is a comprehensive analysis of indicators characterizing the demographic situation in the Republic of Mordovia with reference to socio-economic living conditions and their impact on the repressive behavior of the population. Based on the rating assessments of indicators of the quality of life in Russian regions and the results of a sociological survey, it was revealed that negative subjective assessments of individual parameters of the quality of life of families with children are due to objective conditions. In particular, problems in the labor market, in the field of medical care and infrastructure (roads, transport, housing and communal services), low income of the population.
